US Open week
My favorite tournament week of the year, the US Open, is over. I finished T11 and my best finish so far in this tournament.
It has been a long (!), exciting, fun, challenging and at times – brutal, week! What I love so much about the US Open is that it plays tougher than any other course we play all year, it really challenge your overall game and even more so your mental toughness. This week is literally about survival, to keep grinding when the course eats you up alive and to never ever give up even it is tough to fight back. I read a good quote the other day – that “we don’t grow when things are easy: we grow when we face challenges”, and I feel that really sums up this week as a whole. I always try to find ways to improve and to get better and tougher courses might bring out the best in you but it also makes sure your weaknesses are found. I know what to work on and I can’t wait for next years test!
I felt my game from tee to green was very sharp this week, yet did I find myself getting penalized hitting good shots over and over. Sebonack Golf Course was a tough track, leaving small room for errors and at times it felt we were hitting target golf on a links course, fun! It played tough in the wind and picking the right clubs was crucial and sometimes a bit of a guessing game, a caddies nightmare in other words. I had my team and coaches around me this week, happy to have them by my side and to work hard on my game and to learn from this US Open as a team. As much as golf is an individual sport, having a great support team around me means a lot!
It will probably take a couple of days to recover, cause now it feels like my batteries are dead. I have prepared for this tournament for a long time and this course required a lot both physically and mentally. I am heading to Denver to spend the next couple of days playing the Colorado Golf Club, the host of Solheim Cup in August. Look forward to recharge my batteries surrounding myself with other European players! :)
All for now, hope you all get inspired to take on your next tough challenge in your life!
